Wine of the Month Club

September 15th, 2011

A wine of the month club can be a great thing for novice and experienced wine tasters alike. For novice wine tasters, a wine of the month club provides an opportunity to be exposed to high quality wines on a regular basis. Wine of the month clubs will usually provide wines from a variety of different regions, and with a variety of different tastes. Often an accompanying newsletter will give you information about the wine, and what to expect from the tasting experience. This gives newbie wine tasters the experience they might get from fine dining with a sommelier once a month! As for experienced wine tasters, wine of the month clubs offer them the chance to try premium wines every month. Many clubs also offer different levels of memberships, with higher levels being more appealing to those with more discriminating tastes. Thus, whether you’re well-versed in wine tasting or interested in learning more, a wine of the month club may be for you!

Getting a Haircut in Buenos Aires

September 7th, 2011

I just got a haircut and I really like the way it looks. All the walking to wine tastings makes it too hot to have longer hair. In Buenos Aires, Argentina I am able to get a nice professional haircut for roughly $12 U.S. dollars, which is quite inexpensive compared to a haircut with tip back in the States. Though walking to and hosting cool wine tastings in Buenos Aires is fun, it does move quick so it feels better to cut off a chunk of hair.

Buenos Aires, Argentina actually has some of the best wine tastings. Wine tasting here can range from casual to formal, but the event is always fun and knowledgeable. I have a lot of fun at these events because it is a place to talk with people and improve my palate for wine. Most guys here in Buenos Aires, Argentina are rather fashionable, so I thought I could use an improved haircut to sport during the nightlife. I enjoy leaving a wine tasting to the party scene of the city because I get to drink a variety wines before going to a bar or club.

This is the best haircut I have had since I arrived in the city and I will make sure I go back to the same spot for the same barber. I am a picky person when it comes to hair, so when I find a barber who does a nice job just the way I like it then I feel confident to go back. I didn’t want to shave my head with my buzzer so it is good that I found a spot I trust. I would not look forward to wine tasting with a poorly shaved head and patches of hair missing. Walking around the city feels so much better when I can feel the breeze on my head and sun on my face.

Jordan Vineyard and Winery

April 1st, 2011

There was certainly a time when the general public might have seen the name and expected a famous certain basketball player to own this winery, instead the owner is a oil and natural gas man from Colorado (Tom Jordan) who would fulfill a life long dream of creating a classic red wine club as well as one of the top wineries on the west coast. Having bought what was, at the time, a prune orchard, Jordan quickly planted everything over to vines with a clear focus on Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. At the time it opened, Jordan Vineyard and Winery was a true game changer in Alexander Valley, it helped craft the fine wine craze in the area and almost single handedly lifted quality levels. Almost amazingly (the winery does really deserve credit here) the quality has stayed consistent as production has increased to around 75,000 cases of wine per year.

Firestone Vineyards and Winery

March 3rd, 2011

The Firestone Vineyards and Winery was probably the first true wine estate to come to the Santa Ynez Valley just northeast of the coastal hamlet of Santa Barbara. Always a tourist magnet Leonard and Brooks Firestone saw an opportunity to take advantage of the Meditterean climate and abundance of tourists (let alone the fact that Los Angeles is a short 90 minute drive away) to create a world class winery. New versions of Firestone wine are likely to be perfect fits for a cheap wine club because they are going to attempt to be value driven due to changes in the market as well as the fact that the family owns other higher end wineries nearby. With over two hundred and fifteen acres planted in the Santa Ynez Valley there should be abundant opportunity for the Firestone brand to continue it’s dominance in the marketplace while consumers continue to enjoy the ride.

Von Strasser Winery

February 15th, 2011

An outstanding choice for the best wine club around, but also for anyone interesting in finding an outstanding bottle of Napa Valley red wine, Von Strasser Winery is a critical hit. Located on Diamond Mountain, this 80 acre estate had fallen into a significant state of disrepair before being purchased by Rudy and Rita Von Strasser in 1990. Von Strasser had a long and varied history within the industry starting at Winemakers University (UC Davis) and going on to an internship at Rothschild and winemaking duties at Newton and Trefethen. The current estate vineyard is approximately 15 acres largely Cabernet Sauvignon, with a smaller amount of Merlot and Petite Verdot which are both used as blending grapes. These are deep, rich wines which are largely what consumers expect from Napa Valley wines. With scores sitting in the mid to upper 90 point range it isn’t surprising that these wines sell out almost immediately upon release.
